All teaching positions are part-time for 30 Saturdays between September and May, from 9:30am to 12pm. The German Language School of the North Bay was founded in 1967 in Novato, California, by families seeking to preserve the German cultural heritage and language within the rich multicultural landscape of Sonoma and Marin. Today, we carry on that mission as a non-profit Saturday school and community committed to furthering the language, culture, and customs of German-speaking countries to our local community and beyond—just as we have for 50 years.

Opportunities in Santa Rosa!

We are looking for a classroom teacher for our Kindergarten Group (Santa Rosa Campus) beginning in September of 2019. Kindergarten is designed for children aged 3-5 and is generally a mixture of foreign language learners and German heritage speakers. The program to gives our youngest learners a very gentle and playful introduction to the German language: The children experience German through language immersion, by singing, playing, dancing, and crafting together. The Kindergarten teacher is assisted by an instructional aide. This position is part-time consisting of 30 Saturdays between September and May, from 9:15am to 12:15pm. Job requirements:

  • authorization to work in the US
  • experience in classroom instruction and/ or leadership on the preschool/ kindergarten level
  • fluency in German (both written and spoken) and solid knowledge of the culture of German-speaking countries
  • motivation to work in the unique setting of a once-per-week language school (small groups of learners, but possibly with divergent skill levels within a group, sometimes a mix of foreign language learners and heritage learners)
  • ability to work independently and as member of a team

Please note: A teaching certification (either German or US) is NOT required for this position.

We are looking for a classroom teacher for our Youth Grade 2-3 class at our Santa Rosa campus beginning in September 2019. The Youth Grade 2-3 class is designed for children aged 7-8 and is generally a mixture of foreign language learners and German heritage speakers. With the help of songs, games, and role play, dialogues and short texts, this program familiarizes children with the  German language and culture. While the spoken language plays a major role in this age group, the students are also introduced to reading and writing German. This position is part-time consisting of 30 Saturdays between September and May, from 9:15am to 12:15pm. Contact us if you are interested in teaching with us!

  • experience in classroom instruction and/ or leadership at the elementary level
  • fluency in German (both written and spoken) and solid knowledge of the culture of German-speaking countries
  • motivation to work in the unique setting of a once-per-week language school (small groups of learners, but possibly with divergent skill levels within a group, sometimes a mix of foreign language learners and heritage learners)
  • ability to work independently and as member of a team

We are looking for a “floating” instructional aide beginning in September 2019. A floating aide assists the classroom teachers of different grade level classes (K-adult), on an as-needed basis. The aide helps during whole group activities, and also manages activities with part of the class during group work, to facilitate the instructional flow in a heterogeneous group of learners. This position is part-time consisting of 30 Saturdays between September and May, from 9:15am to 12:15pm. Contact us if you are interested in teaching with us!

Opportunities in Novato!

We are looking for a classroom teacher for our Adult Low Intermediate class (Novato Campus) beginning September 2019. The Adult Low Intermediate Class is designed for adult students who have some prior knowledge, but basic, knowledge of the language. The program builds on existing language skills in all areas all areas of language learning (speaking, listening, reading, writing and culture) on CEFR level A1/A2. This position is part-time consisting of 30 Saturdays between September and May, from 9:15am to 12:15pm. Contact us if you are interested in teaching with us!
