Jobs at our school!

We’re seeking for teachers for the upcoming school year! Several positions are open in Santa Rosa and Novato. View our job descriptions below and apply right away if you are interested. See below for specific open positions.

All teaching positions are part-time for 30 Saturdays between September and May, from 9:30am to 12pm. We offer competitive compensation and an opportunity to be successful at something you love to do – advancing academic excellence and love of German language learning in students. We look forward to meeting you!

The German Language School of Marin was founded in 1967 in Novato, California, by families seeking to preserve the German cultural heritage and language within the rich multicultural landscape of Sonoma and Marin. Today, we carry on that mission as a non-profit Saturday school and community committed to furthering the language, culture, and customs of German-speaking countries to our local community and beyond—just as we have for 50 years.

Opportunities in Santa Rosa!

We looking for a classroom teacher for our Youth Grade 5+ Beginner Class (Santa Rosa Campus) for the 2017/18 school year. This position is part-time: 30 Saturdays between September and May, from 9:30am to 12pm.

The Youth Grade 5+ Beginner Class is designed for students aged 10-13 who start to learn the language. Students usually stay in this class for at least two years, so although this is a beginner class, there are generally skill level differences within the group. The program focuses on a solid introduction into all areas of language learning (speaking, listening, reading, writing and culture) on CEFR level A1. If you are interested in teaching our school, please contact us right away!

Job requirements:

  • authorization to work in the US
  • experience in classroom instruction and/ or leadership
  • fluency in German (both written and spoken) and solid knowledge of the culture of German-speaking countries
  • motivation to work in the unique setting of a once-per-week language school (small groups of learners, but possibly with divergent skill levels within a group, sometimes a mix of foreign language learners and heritage learners)
  • ability to work independently and as member of a team

Please note: A teaching certification (either German or US) is not required for this position.

We are always in need of substitute teachers for both our Novato and Santa Rosa campuses. If you are interested in being a substitute teacher for our school, please contact us right away!

Job requirements:

  • Authorization to work in the US
